About Shiatsu

Shiatsu, meaning ‘finger pressure’ is a Japanese form of bodywork, which is becoming more and more popular and its effectiveness is becoming more widely recognised.

Shiatsu works with ki (vital energy) also known as chi in Chinese. Ki flows through the body in a series of channels called meridians. If ki stops flowing freely then we can feel a variety of symptoms. The Shiatsu treatment helps ki to flow more freely and so help to alleviate symptoms.

In this way Shiatsu can help with neck pain, sports injuries, joint pain and stress. Shiatsu works on an emotional as well as a physical level. It is often described as deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.

After a review of your general health the treatment usually takes place on a futon at floor level. You don’t need to remove any clothing – but its best to wear something loose and comfortable. The treatment may include gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and feet. When appropriate, rotations and stretches may be used.

A Shiatsu session is 60 minutes.
